DLI Summer School
The Summer School takes place in UL from Saturday July 22nd to Saturday July 29th 2023.
The course fees are as follows:
- Residential (includes tuition, bed, lunch & dinner):
for DLI members €575 / for non-members €655 - Non-Residential (includes tuition and lunch only):
for DLI members €350 / for non-members €375

All of the courses are fully booked out. The Summer School Committee will be in touch with anyone who has already reserved a place on any of the courses. Please do not make any payment on the website unless advised to do so.
DLI's Summer School Courses
Course A :
Imagine if….
Tutor: Maisie Lee
This course is for beginner actors and those with limited drama experience. Through games, exercises, small group work and scene study we will explore how to activate our imaginations, work as an ensemble, create and embody characters and most importantly have fun and be creative when performing.
Course B:
What Is the Meaning of This!
Tutor: Geoff O'Keeffe
The course participants will consider what a director does from choosing the play, having a vision, finding magic moments, working with actors, and collaborating with the creative team.
Course C:
Training with Purpose, Training with Clarity
Tutor: Ciaran McCauley
In this course, participants will be experiencing a combination of physical and vocal training techniques chosen to ground the actor in this journey, alongside working on group composition and text that will integrate the entirety of the acting experience.
Course D:
Comedy & Tragedy - Playing The Arc
Tutor: Declan Drohan
This course is suitable for actors with some experience, and also of interest to those with an interest in directing.
Course E:
Finding Your Voice, Releasing the Creative Juices
Tutor: Sue Colgrave
This is a workshop for experienced actors and directors. Sessions will look at finding inspiration and fuelling the imagination through a variety of processes.
Course F:
The Director's Tool-kit
Tutor: Conall Morrison
The course will involve an in-depth investigation of skills and techniques involved in creating productions that are fresh, vivid, and rigorously achieved.
Course G:
Taking Well-Appointed Leaps into the Unknown
Tutor: Joy Nesbitt & Thomas Conway
This course will explore approaches to character objectives through elements of performance such as improvisation, scene work, monologue dissection, and games.
